I really like the fact that we rent our house for Derby. Obviously the money is nice but that first-weekend-in-May deadline motivates us to spring clean, spruce up and de-clutter.
A storm ripped our window boxes off the windows last year. I thought the house looked naked without them. Thanks to the Derby renters coming, Brian fixed them last week and planted lots more flowers. We also repainted the foundation and porch (twice! we didn’t like the first color) and have spent the last five weekends on different cleaning projects in the house. And clearing out our closets to make room for the visitors’ clothes resulted in a trip to Goodwill. The teeny overburdened closets in our 80-year-old house thank us, I’m sure.
I hope we do this every year.
Now if we can just get rid of the moles wreaking havoc in our yard!

Dana, I hope you get paid this year!
