Meet the travelers
The Traveling McMahans | Dana and Brian McMahan
I’m a fiend for travel but only get to enjoy international adventures and escapades once or twice a year. So when I’m on the road I’ll post about my experiences overseas. When I’m home I’ll just chat about travel and food topics.
I live in Louisville, Ky. with my husband and our Pomeranian, Truffle. We started traveling to Europe in 2001 and since then my life has pretty much revolved around planning the next trip. We love eating and trying local foods everywhere we travel, enjoy wine, and like meeting people wherever we go.

Hey T-Mac….you have a great website….sounds like we have a lot in common about travel and eating. I’m headed to good ol Somerset next week.
Loved your blog. Need advice. How do you go about finding independent cottages and hotels to stay in while in Europe? My husband is an international pilot for an airline, and we will be traveling to Europe as soon as school is out (late May)with our 3 teenagers. We’re not sure whether it will be France or Italy, 2 or 3 weeks. Kind of depends on standby seats. Also, when does the lavender bloom in Provence? Might be a good time for a family picture if we’re there at the right time. Thanks.
Hi Dianne. A good place to do some research is Slow Travel: http://slowtalk.com/groupee/. You can read reviews of rentals and browse classifieds.
As far as the lavender, I like this site: http://www.routes-lavande.com/travelling/map.html. If you click on various regions it will tell you when the lavender blooms.
Hope you have a great trip!
I saw your question on Cruise Critic message board and visited your blog. I was wondering which cruise line you are taking this summer. We are on a Mediterranean cruise this summer on Crystal. You look like you are in our age group so I was hoping maybe you are on our cruise. we are a little concerned because all the photos from Crystal look like we might be the youngest on our ship. Just wondering.

Thanks so much for sharing your travels to Bytca and related experiences in finding and visiting family. It is helpful since we plan to visit Bytca in June 2006 for similar reasons. –Another Midwesterner with Bytca roots.
Hi Dana! Remember me? It’s your long lost cousin! Your Mom & Dad came in today and enjoyed a brief visit with them. Your Mom gave me your site and I have so enjoyed reading in between waiting on customers. I can’t wait to read ALL of your adventures. How’s life in the big city? Our biggest adventure in the last few years has been to Seattle ever year. Driving a rental in the big cityy is always an adventure for me, I’ve become too aclimated to this very, very small town. Take care my little cuz’ and let me hear from you sometime. Best wishes Kiddo! Verna
