Moving on to Avignon

It turns out there was a mixup with our reservation here at Mas Du Cos d’Escarrat. We booked for six nights but only have the room for 5 so we’re leaving tomorrow to stay overnight in Avignon before training up to Paris Friday.

I am most frustrated by my inability to speak French and have been overwhlemed by the kindness of the people in this part of France.  Michel ended up cooking us dinner in his bar last night — long story, but it ended with a midnight repast. Today we enjoyed a four hour lunch at our new friends Tom and Pat’s home – they’re an absolutely delightful couple (She’s English, he’s Irish) and they’ve made us feel so welcome here.

I’ve been complimented on my french by several locals and smiled at patiently when I don’t understand. I just wish I could have thanked Michel properly for the effort he went to last night. I say this every time, but I really *must* study French. Though I at least managed to get us by at the self service laundry today. :)

Last dispatch probably … more to come when we get back.

  1. You should check out Kaydee’s blog; she’s talking about learning French in Aix at IS language school – very interesting. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
