I’ve never been this far away from home

[The back story, condensed] Mike, A British filmmaker friend we met on our travels made a film about his Mongol Rally adventure and sent us the DVD along with the soundtrack. On that soundtrack is a great travel song.

It’s by the Kaiser Chiefs and most of the song goes like this:

It’s all I wanted to be
Is a million miles from here
Somewhere over there
Oh my god, I can’t believe it
I’ve never been this far away from home
And Oh my, god I can’t believe it
I’ve never been this far away from home
And Oh my, god I can’t believe it
I’ve never been this far away from home
And Oh my, god I can’t believe it
I’ve never been this far away from home
Oh my god, I can’t believe it
I’ve never been this far away from home
And Oh my, god I can’t believe it
I’ve never been this far away from home
And Oh my, god I can’t believe it
I’ve never been this far away from home
And Oh my, god I can’t believe it
I’ve never been this far away from home

For some reason (can’t imagine why) this song has pumped its way through my head for the last day or so. And in fact, Istanbul will be the furthest we’ve been from home. It’s 5603 miles as the crow flies to Istanbul.

I can’t believe it’s finally here. I’ll try to post before we leave but we’ve got a busy 30 hours ahead of us so maybe you’ll hear from me from across the Atlantic. :)

  1. Good Morning Dana, god bless and have a great trip. Be careful and have lots of fun! I can’t wait til tomorrow, it’s like Christmas Eve as a child. The only problem for me is my house might sell while we are gone and my Uncle Larry is going to pass away in the next day or so. My mom tells me to still go on my trip, so it is very bittersweet for me. Take care!

  2. Bon Voyage! Have a safe, relaxing, exciting and memorable trip. I can’t wait to hear all the wonderful stories and descriptions of the wonderful food.

  3. I hope you two have a remarkable 10 year anniversay! May this be one of your fondest travels yet! I can’t wait to see pictures. Love, Andrea

  4. I know you aren’t home and probably not reading your blog from Europe, but I wanted to wish you a Happy Anniversary today. Hope the 10th is the best yet.
